Sharmaine Ruffa Rama Gutierrez - Bektas, popularly known as Ruffa Gutierrez is a Filipino actress, model and former beauty queen. She was Binibining Pilipinas-World 1993 and the Miss World 1993 2nd Princess. Gutiérrez is daughter to 1960s matinee idol Eddie Gutiérrez and actress Anabelle Rama. She is the older sister of twins Richard and Raymond Gutiérrez, also actors. Ruffa made over 50 films in the Philippines, and has also been involved in various scandals such as the 1994 Manila Film Festival Scam when she received an award not meant for her.
Ruffa Gutierrez has played many roles in her young lifetime. From Manila to LA and now Istanbul; she has adapted to her colorful life with grace and charm at every step.
Born into a celebrity family, Ruffa managed to live a normal childhood through the warm support of her parents, Eddie and Annabelle Gutierrez.
Though however normal things were, her artistic character couldn’t help but shine through at an early age. In 1986, Ruffa signed a four-year exclusive contract with Regal Films - then the country’s prime motion picture company, to do sixteen films, one of which launched her to full stardom.
She has since appeared in more than fifty feature films, graced the cover of almost every magazine and became a spokesperson for leading companies, representing prestigious products such as Johnson & Johnson Baby Lotion, Pantene and Calayan Surgical Center.
Then at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival, Ruffa Gutierrez’s path crossed with Yilmaz Bektas, a Turkish businessman. After a whirlwind courtship that spanned continents and time zones, Ruffa and Yilmaz were married on March 25, 2003 surrounded by their family and friends in Manila.
Following her relocation to Istanbul, their young family has been blessed by two lovely girls, Lorin and Venice. A hands-on mother, nothing Ruffa has ever done compares to the joy of raising children.
Today, Ruffa enjoys finding the right balance for the multi-lingual, multi-cultural family her and her husband share.
In addition to her busy home life, in 2005, Ruffa officially became owner president of Intel Media International Advertising Company, Inc, which represented Fashion TV Turkey during their initial broadcasting period.
2007 promises to by another exciting year as Ruffa prepares to host the Philippines Next Top Model. Other endorsements and surprise projects await Ruffa in the Philippines, to where often she returns.
